Kitchen Remodeling, a Smart Investment

Kitchen remodeling ranks among the most popular trends in home improvements.  The reason?  An excellent ROI.  A remodeled kitchen can deliver better storage, enhanced quality of life and a higher resale value.  Here are five trends to track when planning your kitchen renovation project.

21st Century Cabinets.

Cabinets have gone modern with floating units, systems concealed behind sliding doors, touch-latches eliminating hardware and innovative new materials.  Homeowners now have the option to include aluminum cabinets, high-gloss lacquer, bamboo or semi-translucent glass.

Appliances with Personality.

Retro kitchen accessories in colors like red, yellow and cobalt blue are injecting modern kitchens with a shot of life!

High-Tech Appliances.

Modern appliances are becoming computer-regulated, interactive, cyber-smart and multifunctional.  One of the first prototypes out of the gate was a refrigerator from Samsung, which features internet capabilities; email and television features.

Countertops that are Unique.

Counters are going from common to custom, with unique touches such as wooden butcher blocks and marble slab inserts.  Tampa homeowners are mixing materials, like concrete embedded with polished color glass or metal.  All natural materials, such as stone and marble, also remain popular countertop materials that can also add a personal touch.

You might also consider stainless steel, sealed concrete, mahogany or engineered quartz.  With engineered quartz, you will enjoy the advantages of granite without the same kind of maintenance requirements.

Sleek Wine Refrigeration.

The latest offerings in wine refrigerators include models that can hold upwards of 140 bottles, as well as smaller units that come complete with built-in refrigerator drawers.

Remodeling a Tampa Bathroom for ADA Compliance

Remodeling a Bathroom for ADA Compliance:

If you have a need to remodel a bathroom in your Tampa home, or build a new bathroom that is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, there are a number of different factors that you will need to consider before beginning the project.  The most important consideration when working toward ADA compliance are limitations affecting the person you are designing the bathroom for.

In some cases revisions may be needed for accessibility, while in other situations safety may be the concern of the day.  For example, the bathroom features needed for someone who use a wheelchair could vary greatly from the needs of a person with a different kind of physical infirmity or mobility issue.  Many people are also redesigning a bathroom for easier accessibility for either themselves or older family members, preparing before age requires an immediate and sloppy redesign.  Some people are even adding an ADA compliant bathroom to their home in an attempt to increase their property value and make the home more desirable to potential buyers.  If you are ready to go ahead with an ADA compliant bathroom in your own Tampa home, here are factors to consider.

Guidelines for ADA Compliance:

  • The door needs to swing outward.
  • The bathroom needs to be at least 32 inches wide.
  • The doors should have latches that can also unlatch from the outside.
  • The floor, including the threshold area, needs to be level to allow easy wheelchair access.
  • The bathroom needs to be roughly five feet in diameter to allow a 360 degree turn by a wheelchair.

The specialists from Rossi Construction, Inc. can help you design an ADA compliant bathroom that makes life easier for the entire family!  Contact us at 813.436.0177 to schedule an appointment for a free consultation today!

Tampa Bathroom Renovation Guide Drafted by Rossi Construction, Inc.

In a statement to Tampa media and remodeling enthusiasts, the bathroom renovation specialists from Rossi Construction, Inc. issued a pocket guide to local homeowners.  The guide is intended to serve as a simple tip checklist, by which homeowners can keep the budget for a bathroom renovation project under lock and key.

Jason Rossi launched the tip guide with a simple paint by numbers “best practices” outline, covering topics as simple as budget and as complex as lighting placement

  • Rossi explained the best place to start any remodeling project is the budget.  Not only will it have a big impact on the type of materials selected for a Tampa bathroom renovation, it will also help set the boundaries the design will incorporate.
  • It was explained that going “green” is good for both a family and the environment.  Green products often are more appealing in an aesthetic sense, function better, emit fewer chemicals and are often generally healthier because of the care in their design.  An eco-friendly approach to remodeling is not just about new products, it can be something as simple as choosing to refurbish wood instead of tossing it in the dump.
  • To keep the remodeling budget from jumping, it was suggested that homeowners avoid moving the plumbing!  Moving a sink and toilet looks easy at first glance, but the problem lies beneath the surface and the costs involved in moving the plumbing.  If one spends less cash moving fixtures, there will be more money to spend on an awesome new shower system.
  • Rossi finished by explaining a homeowner does not underestimate the importance of good lighting in a bathroom.  Sconce lighting on the vanity is the best way to get even lighting on your face, and installing it at eye level will keep away shadows that really do little for your appearance.  Dim lighting makes a relaxing bath perfect, while bright lights make it easy to get ready for work in the morning.

5 Tampa Remodeling Projects to Improve Your Home

A recent National Association of Home Builders survey of remodelers found the five most common remodeling projects in the United States.  Data indicates that small remodels reward homeowners with a better return on investment and can help customize a home for greater enjoyment.

Bathroom Remodeling

Remodeling a bathroom can be complex or simple with the addition of new fixtures, toilet, a vanity and lighting.  Low flow toilets will consume less water, effectively decreasing the monthly water bill.

Kitchen Remodeling

Small kitchen remodeling projects can improve the look and utility of the space without a big investment.  Consider replacing backsplashes, resurfacing cabinet fronts, adding new countertops or contemplate an eco-friendly flooring option.  Installing low-flow faucets and energy efficient appliances can also reduce water and energy expenses in a room with such heavy traffic patterns.

Replacing Window and Doors

New windows and doors can help reduce energy leakage from your home, and can bring down seasonal heating and cooling bills.

Repair the Damage in and Around Your Home

Property damage is a common occurrence.  Grab misfortune as an opportunity to customize and make upgrades to your home.  If you are already going to be inconvenienced with major home repair, take the time to plan and build in Tampa home remodeling plans that may have been set aside in the past.

Complete Remodeling Projects

Evaluate the use of your home to see if it fits the needs and lifestyle of your family.  Homeowners are reconfiguring spaces to fit the needs of their families, making better use of their home’s total space and equity.  This is an option many are finding favorable to a move to a new home, which inevitably means the modification of a mortgage in an unsteady economy.

Smart Tampa remodeling projects can make your home more comfortable for both your family and your lifestyle.  If it is time to consider potential Tampa remodeling projects, call Rossi Construction, Inc. at 813.436.0177 to set an appointment for a free consultation.

Building My Tampa Media Room

Earlier this week, we shared some ideas for your Tampa media room and its optimized placement and preparation.  Rather than blasting you with too much information from the start, we wanted to make sure you understood more about proper placement of the media room; the basics of acoustics and how you can make the get the walls ready for a solid sound system.  It is time to look at some of the additional groundwork that needs to be in place for your peak enjoyment.

Preparing the ceiling in your Tampa media room.

In addition to covering the walls with a sound absorbing material, it is necessary to cover the ceiling with a similar material.  The preferred product is a melamine foam square, which can be adhered to the ceiling and decorated in any way that you would like.  Consider coloring them in darker colors, in order to minimize reflected light from the television or video screen.  The dark tiles will absorb the light in your Tampa media room, much like covered walls will absorb the sound.

What do I need to do to the floor in my Tampa media room?

Select a thick pad and dense carpet for the media room floor.  Both will help absorb sound and improve enjoyment of the media room.  If it is possible, keep the color dark to avoid reflection and hide the inevitable stains that even a stain resistant carpet is bound to receive over years of use.

Windows are never an advantage in a Tampa media room!

If it is at all possible, avoid windows at all cost in your Tampa media room.  Light from the outside will distract from your experience, and glass will cause problems with the sound.  If you are not able to escape the windows, try to use a shade AND heavy curtains to block the real world.

Be subtle with the lighting in your Tampa media room.

Bright light is not a necessity in the media room.  Subtle will work best, and it will prevent unintended distractions.  Lights need to b place in a way to prevent their reflection on the television screen.  Lights can also be directed at the floor, much like at your local movie theater.

After the team from Rossi Construction, Inc. helps you prepare your Tampa media room, it is just a matter of the electronic components!  Give us a call at 813.436.0177 to discuss the addition of a media room to your home!

Adding a Media Room

There are no hard and fast rules for what transforms a room with a television into a home media room.  At a minimum it is a bigger, better picture with better sound.  It is not just electronics junkies and lottery winners who are going in for home theater systems.  Families who want to treat their family to a better home cinema experience, without the overpriced candy, are upgrading thanks to affordable options for all budgets.

To create a media room in your house, you will first need to prepare a basement; attic or a space room of a college-bound child.  Then you will need to acquire the components:  a television; a receiver; a Blu-ray player and speakers.  You will then need to put it all together.  Throughout the process, remember that in the end what is important is not snazzy technology or killer specs for the room but how at home you feel in your media room.  You want to feel comfortable enough to enjoy yourself, really only giving thought as to the snack supply.

Without a room that is properly outfitted, even a top-of-the-line home theater will come across as being lackluster at best.  For most of this, this means remodeling a corner of the basement or a spare room to make it more inviting to a media room.  A Tampa general contractor can give you terrific insight covering direction, required supplies and timeline.

If the time is right to add a media room to your home, call Rossi Construction, Inc. at 813.436.0177 to schedule an appointment for a consultation!

Rossi Construction, Inc. Providing Top 5 Tampa Kitchen Remodeling Tips

Tampa Florida (PRWEB) September 26, 2013

“When it is time for a customer to remodel their kitchen, increasing the value of their home is usually not the main reason,” says Jason Rossi of Rossi Construction, Inc. “The kitchen is the center of the home. Customers want to do a kitchen remodel because it is where the family gathers to celebrate everything from birthdays to holidays and all of the special times between.”
While it’s true that having a kitchen remodeled can be inconvenient, these five tips will ensure a minimum amount of stress and inconvenience.

  • To minimize potential problems it is important to check out all contractors that are interviewed with the Construction Industry Licensing Board. Only choose licensed, insured, experienced contractors with numerous positive references. This company’s employees will be working on the kitchen remodel for several weeks. It is important that personalities are compatible and that they can be trusted.
  • Do not rush when deciding on the kitchen layout and design, appliances and all finishes. Remodeling magazines can provide ideas, but these ideas need to be discussed with a contractor, who will determine their viability in the design. This is a critical part of the process. A home owner needs to understand that once the cabinets and counter top have been installed, they do not want to decide they are not happy with the amount of counter space.
  • Create a kitchen that is easy to use when cooking. The typical work triangle works best in most cases. The cooking surface, sink, and refrigerator need to be close to save steps, time, and frustration.
  • Do not skimp on counter space. Cooking can become frustrating when every flat surface in the kitchen needs to be used to prepare a meal, because the remodel did not allow for ample counter space.
  • Make sure there is enough storage. Many customers want to remove upper cabinets and open up their kitchen to the adjacent living areas, so they can enjoy being closer to their family and friends while cooking. This can create a problem with storage in the kitchen.

Pitfalls To Avoid In A Tampa Kitchen Remodeling Project

There are no shortage of tips on how to remodel your Tampa kitchen.  Few people seem to address some of the common planning mistakes we frequently find.  This is not a comprehensive list of ideas to consider mistakes in Tampa kitchen remodeling and design, but you can consider it a list of problems you should try to avoid!

Appliance needs are not the same for everyone!

In your search for the perfect appliances for you Tampa kitchen remodeling project, you will want to make an effort to find appliances that fit your lifestyle.  Do not make your appliance purchase a matter of matching the neighbors.  You need to feel comfortable abandoning the plans for a six burner cooktop if the budget is quickly getting out of control, settling instead for a total of four burners.  Making smart appliance choices allows you to make nicer cabinetry or flooring decisions for your Tampa kitchen remodeling project instead, but it is vital to assess the needs of your family.  You do not need all of the appliances that you want.  Wise decisions will make your overall Tampa kitchen remodeling project both aesthetically appealing and a joy to use!

Do not let poor lighting ruin your Tampa kitchen remodeling project!

Poor lighting layout and poor lighting suggestions are a frequent problem in Tampa kitchen remodeling projects.  People tend to run out of steam by the time that lighting decisions are made, running to a big local improvement retailer to grab any lighting that is currently offered at a discount.  Do not do it!  Selections for lighting should be narrowed at the time you start the Tampa kitchen remodeling project, because the style has already been set for the entire project.  Choose lighting carefully because you can buy good looking fixtures for a minimal investment.  When considering lighting layout, talk with your contractor about the proper layout and ask if he can also bring in anyone who has a good eye for lighting layout.

Invest in quality flooring for your Tampa kitchen remodeling project!

Many will choose cheap flooring for their Tampa kitchen remodeling project, failing to grasp that the foundation of a Tampa kitchen remodeling design is in the flooring.  Making the right choice now will save you from having to rip it out at a later date, because it is dated; the wrong color or an incorrect size.

Adding a Half Bath

Adding a half bath to a home is a common request that we get.  Many homeowners want to increase the value of their houses, but what most people really want is a bathroom that is convenient for their guests to use while never compromising on privacy.  Who really wants friends and extended family to see dirty laundry, prescription bottles and preferred shampoo?

Depending on the layout of your house, there are several ways to add a half bath by carving some space from your existing floor plan.  You can consider a bathroom tucked beneath an existing stairway, a bathroom carved from the garage or a bathroom nestled into an attic dormer.  Other options include splitting a large bathroom into a smaller half bath and a smaller full bath, or repurposing an oversize storage closet and turning it into a half bath.

No matter where you put your half bath addition, there are a few factors you should keep in mind as you plan this renovation project.

Dimensions

Keep in mind that a half bath does not need to be large.  You will have enough space for the renovation if you can find spot in your house that is about three to four feet wide, and roughly six feet long.  A space that is any smaller will be uncomfortable for people to access.

Keep it Functional

Your half bath must contain, at a minimum, a toilet; a sing and a mirror.  Having an under-sink cabinet is nice, but it can be cut if space is tight.

Keep it Close to the Plumbing

A have bath needs running water as well as drainage and ventilation.  To keep the budget low, try to locate your new half bath as close to the existing water supply and sewage connections as is possible.

If it is time to assess the space available in your home for a half bath, call Rossi Construction, Inc. at 813.436.0177 to schedule a consultation.
